Paver Stripping is a tedious task but a task necessary in order to restore the paver to its original state once the sealer has failed. There are many reasons Sealers can fail such as time, elements, paints, excessive sealer, and installation. To remove sealer, we apply a sealer stripper to the surface allowing it to dwell for a period of time before removing the sealant. We immediately come back with a special turbo nozzle to remove the remanent of sealant on the pavers ensuring a clean sealant free surface. Once sealant is visibly removed it's time to seal. Removing the sealant will also help allow the newly installed sealant reach its life expectancy by having proper adhesion to the paver surface. Sealants typically last 3-5 years, areas that are not exposed to the elements typically last longer than areas exposed to the elements. You should usually strip your paver after 3 seals unless experiencing other issues.
Too many times do we meet with frustrated homeowners ready to throw out their pavers to spend a fortune on new ones simply because their pavers have lost their luster. Faded pavers are a prime candidate to be dyed. Concrete pavers are a product which are not colored all the way through meaning once the elements start to eat away at the product the product begins to lose its color. Using a Special Dye, we obtain through surfacelogix allows us to bring back some of that curbside appeal while having a massive saving by not replacing the pavers. Applying the dye before sealing gives us the ability to confirm with the homeowner on the results to come before sealing, all the while reminding the customer that once sealed the color of the dye will deepen slightly. Dyeing the pavers before sealing gives us the chance to wash the dye out of the pavers if the homeowner is not happy with the result. After dyeing the pavers, we come back with a water-based film forming sealant to lock in the color of the dye.

Do your paver stones have a white chalky substance on the surface? The technical term for this is called efflorescence. It is caused when moisture from rain or humidity collects in the porous paver stones and the heat from the sun draws the moisture and sodium carbonate (water soluble salt) within the pavers to the surface. When the moisture evaporates, it leaves a random pattern of white or gray salt deposits on the surface of the pavers. Using certain chemicals, we are able to treat the efflorescence. If sealed over the sealant will have to be removed in order to treat the efflorescence. Typically, Efflorescence will appear withing the first 30-60 days. If Efflorescence persists on appearing after this time period, you should reach out to whoever you purchased the stone from or contracted the work with.
